Two leaflets relating to gas works in Knaresborough, Yorkshire in the 1840s. 1. Knaresborough Gas Works, an 1846 leaflet from the Commissioners under the Improvement Act announcing, and explaining, a switched from contract to metered use of gas following their acquisition of Knaresborough Gas Works. Sets out the relative costs of lighting by gas, by Tallow Candles, by Wax Candles, Sperm Whale Oil etc. Single leaf folded to form 4pp, two of which are blank. Paper is a little toned and creased where it has been folded, some mild edge wear and a single small ink stain towards the bottom of the first page. 2. Flyer setting out the Commissioners' Accounts for 15th October 1840 to 16 September 1841 (including salaries to Watchmen, Collectors, Bad Debts etc). Paper a little toned, especially towards bottom, creased, has been folded down centre, a little gentle edge wear and occasional spotting. Some contemporary small calculations in ink and pencil on verso. A nice little collection of Knaresborough and urban development interest.
