432pp. Plate illustration to frontis., artist not named, showing "Abel Fletcher jingled temptingly the silver money in the pockets of his long-flapped brown waistcoat". Maroon cloth-covered boards with three colour pictorial and decorative illustration & gilt lettering and detail. Boards lightly rubbed at corners and worn around spine, with gentle fraying at head and heel of spine. Previous owners inscription, partially obliterated, on ffep. Binding cracked between fpdep and ffep; mild tanning at page edges, else internally clean and neat. Lovely, hard to find, example of pictorial binding of this classic children's tale.
