Jenny Lind (1820-1887), also know as the Swedish Nightingale, was a celebrated Swedist opera singer, closed associated with Felix Mendelssohn and in high demand across northern Europe in the late 1830s and 1840s. In 1850, she undertook a highly successful tour of the United States, performing 93 concerts at the invitation of P T Barnum (of circus and showman fame).
