Text in Swedish. 464pp, illustrated with black and white plate illustrations and sample musical scores. Half bound in blue calf's leather over marbled boards, five panelled spine with gilt decorations and gilt titles on red spine labels. All edges marbled. Marbled endpapers. Boards a little worn, gentle rubbed at edges in places, leather cracked in part along front joint. Front panel bowed outwards. Last few leaves show some mild warping from old damp damage else internally neat, clean, bright and tight.
Jenny Lind (1820-1887), also know as the Swedish Nightingale, was a celebrated Swedist opera singer, closed associated with Felix Mendelssohn and in high demand across northern Europe in the late 1830s and 1840s. In 1850, she undertook a highly successful tour of the United States, performing 93 concerts at the invitation of P T Barnum (of circus and showman fame).
