Il Pentamerone is a collection of Neopolitan fairy stories from the 14th-16th centuries, first collected and written by Basile, and here translated into English by Sir Richard Burton. Widely considered to be one of the earliest collections of fairy tales and Burton's is perhaps the finest translation into English.
