Ice-Work, Present and Past (The International Scientific Series No. 78)
First edition, first printing. xiv, 296pp, with a tissue-guarded engraved frontispiece and 24 further figures, including four fold out maps, one of which is coloured, showing Glacial Movements in France and Switzerland; Contour and Glacial Map of the British Isles; Map of the British Isles during Glacial Epoch, according to Professor Carvill Lewis; and Map showing the Glacial Geology of the United States (fold outs, maps and illustrations, which are so often missing, are all present as called for in this volume). In cloth-covered boards, extensively decorated in black and gilt, with gilt lettering on spine. Top edge gilt. Black endpapers. (Boards are a little rubbed at corners, a little more so at the ends of a slightly sunned spine, slightly marked. Internally neat, clean and fresh, barring small white scratch on front endpaper, hint of toning at page edges and two previous owner's inscriptions on fly leaf, one of which is lengthy, there is a tear along the crease of one of the maps.) Tall 12mo. A really lovely, collectible quality, copy of this 19th century work on ice and glaciers.
