Volumes I, II and III (of four) only. 246pp, plus 57 hand coloured plates; 266pp, plus 63 hand coloured plates; 208pp, plus 59 hand coloured plates. Uniformly bound blue buckram cloth boards with blind embossed decorations, gilt stamped motif on front panel, gilt lettering and decorations on spines. Black endpapers. 4tos. Buckram is worn, a little soiled and faded, rubbed on edges and joints, corners rounded, spine ends bruised and fraying. Hinges cracking, binding holding but fragile with the occasional loosened leaf. A little light page toning in margins. Ownership stamp of Capt Harcourt T Gammell of Lichfield House, 1 Regent Street, Weston-Super-Mare on the first leaf of each volume. Gammell (1829-1904) served in the Royal Navy, seeing action in many parts of the world - West Africa, Australia, the Baltic Campaign in 1864/65 and was the officer on watch at the time of HMS Conqueror was wrecked in the Bahamas in 1861.
