Complete in two volumes.  viii, 794pp; 795-1606pp.  Both volumes have a tissue guarded frontispiece and together have over 1,000 drawings as illustrations.  Uniformly bound in red cloth with black decorations on front panel, gilt lettering and decoration on the spines.  Bevelled edges.  Black endpapers.  Large 8vos.  Cloth is worn and rubbed, with some scuff marks and scatches, some cracking on spine joints, sunned over spines, with minor loss and at spine ends.  Text block edges a little toned.   Hinges cracked.  Both volumes have the bookplate of J Lloyd Conrich on the front paste down.  Offset toning on tissue guards.  Some faint and occasional spotting and occasional minor corner crease.

A handsome and imposing set of this early edition of Harper's mammoth enclopedia of the history of the United States.  A very heavy set.
