126pp. Blue cloth-covered boards, black titles on spine. 12mo. Sun-faded spine, rubbed corners and spine ends, small tear in spine. Text block edge tanning and starting to fox. Endpapers starting to tan; gutters cracked and strained, volume quite loose; pages tanning. Otherwise, internally neat and clean.

A polemic book, published anonymously under the pen name 'Cato' following the failure of the British to prevent German's occupation of France and Norway in 1940: a damning and influential attack on leading figures in the British military and government, and upon the failed policy of appeasement.  It was later attributed to three co-authors, including Michael Foot, future leader of the Labour Party.
