82pp. Fuchsia cloth-covered boards; gilt titles on spine. Illustrated with several full page, line-drawn illustrations, in text illustrations and decorative initial letters at the start of each chapter. 8vo. Lightly rubbed spine ends with small closed tear at heel joint; board just above stressed. Lightly rubbed corners. Text block edges very lightly foxed. Free endpapers slightly tanned, tear in paper along part of front hinge, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. Dust jacket has moderate shelf wear, with a number of closed tears and chipping to edges, not price clipped.

In the twelfth century, Abbe Suger set out to rebuild the Abbey of St Denis and restore the power that the King of the Franks had held at the time of Charlemagne.  This is the story of that rebuilding and its impact on Frankish history.
