Bumped extremities. Top text block edges foxing. Free endpapers starting to fox and tan. Previous owner's name on front free endpaper (dated 1943). Hinges stretched at endpapers; gutter cracked at title page and pages 49 and 209. Frontispiece detached and laid-in. Pages have been well thumbed but clean and complete. Over 90 black and white illustrations in text throughout.
