Not dated but circa 1942. 128pp. Paperback in stiff card covers (covers are a little worn with some rubbing at edges and light chipping around spine; small scar in paper on upper leading corner). Internally mild age toning and a few scattered marks, page edges around upper corner bruised. An evocative guide to eating and food preparation for war time Britain, with recipes focused on ingrediants that were in available and/or rationed. With nutritional hints, again with an emphasis on foodstuffs available to the average housewife, and hints to reduce the need to use those foodstuffs where were rationed or hard to get, such as sugar. Lots of recipes using ingredients that could be grown at home, harvested from the hedgerows or captured or raised by the individual (such as rabbit). Fascinating insight into the war time pressures on both the country in the war time 1940s and the housewife on the home front.
