First edition, first impression. 192pp, with illustrations by Richard and John Luckett Jefferies. In green cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on spine. 8vo. Boards very slightly rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends. Text block edges spotted. Some mild spotting internally, else neat, clean and tight throughout. In its original dust jacket, very lightly bumped on edges, with some spotting/staining on edges on the interior. Newspaper clipping carrying obituary of the editor - and Jefferies good friend - loosely laid in. An anthology of Jefferies' essays and articles, some previously published and others appearing for the first time, with introduction and notes by Samuel Looker. Field and Farm embraces two sides of Jefferies' genius - that of an interpreter of farm life and the life of fields and their workers and that of the more visionary and eloquent articulation of the beauty of the sky, of sunlight, of cornland and woodland.
