Familiar Things : A Cyclopaedia of Entertaining Knowledge, Being Useful Information, Popularly Arranged (Volume II)
Volume II (of II) only. vi, 378pp. Half-bound in brown leather over marbled paper, red leather spine label, gilt titles and decorations on spine. (Boards are rubbed all round edges and joints, so light chipped, heavy shelf wear visible on marbled paper.) Text block edges darkened. Endpapers have some browning and marks, cracked gutters. A little light, occasional spotting throughout. An unusual cyclopaedia which starts off with a loaf of bread, moving on to a cup of cocoa, a little lecture on flowers etc. In part more social commentary - evaluating the significance of ordinary things - than reference. Quirky and at times amusing.
