First edition, first impression. 312pp plus several monochrome plate illustrations, and further decorations and line drawings in text. Maps on endpapers. In green cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on spine. 8vo. Cloth rubbed at edges, frayed and cracked at spine ends. A little spotting on text block edges. Previous owner's name on front free endpaper. Some faint spotting on first and last few leaves, else internally fresh, clean and firm. A record and account of Fawcett's exploration of South America. Fawcett was a British geographer, artillery officer, archaeologist and explorer of South America. Fawcett disappears in 1925, along with eldest son Jack, during an expedition to find an ancient lost city which he believed existed in the Amazon rainforest.
