Not dated but pre-1885 (inscription on title page, dated April 1885), likely the 1883 Routledge edition of Austen's novels, which Routledge themselves described as "an entirely new edition, handsomely printed in crown 8vo, from new type. Five volumes, cloth, 12s. 6d. Separate volumes price 2s 6d each, cloth, with frontispiece". 444pp plus publisher's catalogue bound in at rear. Handsome stamped, ruled and decorated cloth boards with gilt embellishments to titles and spine. Tissue-guarded plate frontispiece. Decorated initial capitals in text, with further textual decorations. Boards very slightly worn at edges, and a little rounded at spine tips. Spotting on fore-edge, frontis verso and tissue guard only, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. A handsome, well-preserved and interesting early copy of Austen's masterpiece novel, from an important edition of her works.
