Elizabeth Ham's autobiography contains some of the sharpest portraits and insights into life in England, Ireland and the Channel Islands in the latter 18th and early 19th centuries. She planned its publication but died beforehand; and it remained unpublished until this edition was produced by Faber & Faber in the 1940s.
