Jean Estoril wrote several books about ballerina Drina and the Dominick Ballet School. Estoril, who herself enjoyed the ballet, claimed that Drina was 'born' one night during a performance of Daphnis and Chloe at the Royal Ballet in Covent Garden: 'There as a black-haired girl of about ten, wearing scarlet dress, sitting just in front of Miss Estoril, and she suddenly knew that she must write a ballet series centred round a half-Italian girl'.
