Scheiner, together with Vogel, were two of the pioneers of Astronomical Photographic Spectroscopy, making a significant contribution to the emergence of the then new science of astrophysics. Scheiner (1858-1913) in particular 'proved conclusively through photographic spectroscopy that the Great Andromeda Nebula was...an 'island universe' made of stars.
