Published between 1894 and 1898. xii, 428pp, with portrait plate frontispiece, occasional further monochrome plate illustrations and one folding out facsimile reproduction; [ii], 484, 32pp, with tissue-guarded plate frontispiece and occasional further black and white plates; [ii], 482, 32pp, with tissue-guarded colour plate frontispiece and further monochrome plate illustrations; [ii], 496pp, 32pp, with tissue-guarded frontispiece, further monochrome plate illustrations and one fold-out plan. Uniformly bound in Bohn's Historical Library series binding of blue-cloth boards with motif blind embossed on front panels, gitl stamped lettering on spines. (Bohn's Libraries was sold to Bell, the publisher, in 1864). Cream endpapers. 12mos. Cloth is worn, rubbed at edges and round spine with some minor indentations on edges, a little sunned and creased over spines. Text block edges a little dust damaged. Amorial bookplate of Athelstane Corderoy on the front paste down of each volume, as well as another previous owner's inscription and a further name inked on front free endpapers. A little shaken and hint of toning to pages.
A nice, if well used, set usual to find complete in four volumes.
