After describing his working methods, Gillmor speaks of the inspiration behind the 90 prints of birds illustrated, evoking memories and wandering into autobiographical anecdotes and reflections on this artistic process. The final section demonstrates the use of linocuts for posters and dust jackets, especially those he designed for the prestigious New Naturalist series.
