Cotton : Answers Your Questions and Introducting Cotton (Cotton Board publications)
Two booklets produced by The Cotton Board. Undated but the Cotton Board operated from 1940 to 1967 and these leaflets likely date from the heyday of its promotional work between 1956 and 1963. (1) Cotton : Answers Your Questions, an 8pp stapled booklet printed in colour (a little surface wear to covers and some signs of fingering but generally neat, clean, bright and tight. Exposes the benefits of cotton as a household textile, with buying hints and washing and cotton care hints, and featuring the Cotton Board's high profile campaign slogan, Buy Britain's Cotton. 16mo. (2) Introducing Cotton, 16pp leaflet printed in colour but with black and white illustrations (a little wear to covers, slightly rubbed at base of spine, some mild marks on verso, staples rusting; internally neat, clean, bright and tight). Provides a general overview of the history of cotton production - starting in India and Egypt, with key facts about the cotton plant and manufacturing processes and uses as a yarn and as a textile. Together the two provide a fascinating insight into British government attitudes towards the Cotton Industry in the mid 20th century. Rare survivals.
