Not dated but c 1950. Edition unclear but likely a second state dust jacket. 256pp. Brown cloth boards (rubbed and faded at edges, rounded at corners and spine ends, a few marks). Slightly cocked. Lending sheet on front endpaper, else no other library markings. Text block edges speckled, old tape repair to first gutter. In its original dust jacket (rubbed, chipped at edge, cracked in places on folds, crack resulting in loss on verso, torn on verso, tape repaired internally). Dust jacket now in archival-quality mylar wrapper to protect & prolong the life of the jacket. It is not adhered to the book or to the jacket. Issued as part of Hutchinson's 'best value in publishing' series. Volume generally tatty but a good reading copy or collection filler until a better state volume comes along. Author's third novel, giving a glimpse of the lives of the various patrons who gather in restaurants for coffee at 11am.
