First UK edition, first printing. 184pp. In red cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on the spine. 8vo. Cloth slightly worn, a little sunned over spine. Top text block edge a tad dust darkened. Internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original dust jacket, lightly shelf worn, a little bumped on edges, gently rubbed at extreme points, mild staining on rear panel. Dust jacket now protected in an archival quality Mylar wrapper fitted without the use of tape or adhesives. Waugh (d. 2008) was a pioneering mystery novelist, a Grand Master of the Mystery Writers Association of America, who wrote also under the pen names of Elissa Grandower, Harry Walker and H Baldwin Taylor. Known for his hard-boiled detective fiction, Born Victim features his recurring character, Fred Fellows. It was first published in the US in 1962.
