Waugh (d. 2008) was a pioneering mystery novelist, a Grand Master of the Mystery Writers Association of America, who wrote also under the pen names of Elissa Grandower, Harry Walker and H Baldwin Taylor. Known for his hard-boiled detective fiction, Born Victim features his recurring character, Fred Fellows. It was first published in the US in 1962.
