Birds of a Feather: Unpublished Letters of W H Hudson
First edition, first printing. 108pp. Numerous wood engraved illustrations by Marcus Beaven. Black cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to spine (boards clean and square with sharp corners). Internally neat, clean, bright and tight. Overall a lovely volume with enchanting illustrations. Hudson was among the best-loved writers on the English countryside, writing largely in the late 19th century and early 20th century. In 1906, John Harding, an actor interested in boards, wrote to Hudson about the Dartford Warbler, kicking off a correspondence which enduring for 16 years, until Hudson's death in 1917. These letters are published here, edited and introduced by Dennis Shrubsall.
