xii, 272pp, 60 tissue-guarded colour plates (inc. frontispiece). Blue cloth-covered boards; gilt design and titles on front, gilt titles on spine; top text block edge sprayed in gilt. 8vo. . Lightly rubbed and bumped spine ends, corners rubbed and rounded. Text block edges lightly tanned and foxed. Front gutter cracked, volume a little loose. Endpapers and prelims lightly tanned and starting to fox. Otherwise, internally very slight tanning to page edges otherwise neat, clean, bright and tight. This beautiful book is the record of a painter who spent some years of study and work in the Nile Valley and if either by illustration or description he succeeds in aiding others to an appreciation of the wonder and mystery of these most ancient remains, he will not have painted or written in vain.
