Previously published by Harper and Brothers in the US (1850). 190pp plus plate illustrations and publisher's catalogue at rear. In blue cloth-covered boards, extensively decorated with blind embossing and gilt decorations and lettering on front board and spine, AEG (all edges gilt. Extra, engraved title page. Engraved frontispiece. Monochrome plate illustrations and occasional page decorations. (Boards worn, rubbed on edges, rounded at corners and spine ends; internally generally neat, clean, bright and tight, barring a small water mark affecting the frontispiece and first title page and hint of toning.) Abbott was a prolific American writer of juvenile stories. His Beechnut stories revolve around the eponymous Beechnut, a youngster from Switzerland who lives in the White Mountains in New Hampshire. 12mo
