A Public Notice, issued by Thomas HY Fleming, Mayor of Harrogate, entitled 'Protection from Hostile Aircraft - Precautions in Harrogate'. The small (approximately six by ten inches) gives details of actions that residents and civic offices should take following an air raid warning and warns that 'delinquents...remember that any neglect on their part may endanger the safety of the whole town'. 'The public are respectively requested, in the event of Zeppelins raiding Harrogate, to remain in their houses'. Includes specific instructions for those in places of entertainment such as the Kursaal or the Opera House. Not dated, but issued between 1914 and 1918, likely towards the end of that period as that would co-incide with Fleming's mayoralty, but prior to the Kursaal being renamed the Royal Hall in a mid-war wave of anti-German sentiment. Single sheet of paper, a few chips and a little rubbed at edges, slight curl to upper edge, has been folded in half. Clean and generally bright.
