Admiral's Wife, Being the Life and Letters of the Hon Mrs Edward Boscawen from 1719 to 1761

First edition.  xviii, 298pp, monochrome plate frontispiece and 25 further black and white plate illustrations.  Blue cloth-covered boards, black lettering on spine.  8vo.  Cloth unevenly faded, rubbed along edges and rounded at corners and spine ends, slightly sunned over a ridged spine.  Previous owner's name neatly on front free endpaper. Endpapers a little toned.  Newspaper clippings relating to the donation of Hatchlands Park to the National Trust in 1944 pasted to early leaves (Hatchlands Park was the home of Frances Boscawen).  Various other newspaper clippings and leaflets relating to Frances Boscawen, Hatchlands and Cecil Aspinall-Oglander loosely laid in.

An interesting rather than fine copy of this now hard to find biography of Frances Boscawen, literary hostess, member of the Blue Stocking Society and wife of Admiral Edward Boscawen to whom the French Fleet surrendered in 1758 and who was victorious at the Battle of Lagos a year later.
