Undated but 1920s. 22pp, stapled brochure. Each leaf of this elegant booklet is printed on a different type of paper, to show off the high-quality paper made at Abbey Mills. The covers are Royal Cornwall paper, it also features Abbey Mills Antique Laid, Basingwerk Parchment, Chariot Offset Cartridge, Antique Wove, etc. With samples of the type of colour and monochrome illustrations which work well on particular papers. Five stunning colour illustrations, including one of Cunard's R M S Mauretania and a watercolour of the Dock Basin, Port of Manchester by Herbert Finn. Coloured endpapers, the rear endpapers showing printing in the age of Caxton against a 'modern' offset printing press built by Waite and Saville. A brochure, giving an overview of the history paper-making serving as a demonstration of the types of paper produced at the Abbey Mills Paper Mills in Flintshire in North Wales. Abbey Mills was a paper mill in Flintshire, North Wales, which was founded 1690. Taking advantage of good water and a nearby port to bring in raw materials, it specialised in high-quality papers such as Basingwerk Parchment and Royal Cornwall which it introduced in the 1920s. A specialty of the mill was making paper from esparto grass. There is some spotting and soiling on the covers which are gently worn at edges with a couple of short, closed tears, and a little lighter spotting on endpapers else in very condition, internally remarkably bright. A lovely brochure. 4to.
