Mary Anderson (1859-1940) was a successful and celebrated American actress to transfered to the London stage for period. She returned to London after a breakdown and later married Antonio Fernando de Navarro, returning only to the stage for fund-raising performances during the first world war. But the real joy of her autobiography is the insight she gives to others - she had a remarkable knack of knowing all the right people and cultivating friendships with the talented and learned.
