First edition.  256pp, illustrated with twelve monochrome plates, being pencil drawings al l by L S Lowry.  Red cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on spine.  8vo.  Cloth a little faded, gently rubbed at corners and a little rounded at spine ends, a little sunned over spine.  A little toning on endpapers only, rear pastedown has small stain at top.  Previous owner's name neatly inked on front free endpaper, dated 1931 else internally neat, clean, bright and tight.

Timperley was a local historian and writer of topographical studies.  This is probably the most remarkable of his works for the illustrations which the publisher, Cape, commissioned from leading artist, L S Lowry.  This is the only book Lowry illustrated (although he did do a few dust jackets). Now a very hard to find title.
