1st thus. xviii, 166pp, iv. With introduction by G K Chesterton and preface by B W Matz. Colour frontis, three further colour illustrations and four woodcuts by John Leech and three additional illustrations. Bright red cloth boards, blind stamped and gilt decoration and titles. All edges gilt. Deep green endpapers. Presented in illustrated slipcase. This is a lovely little facsimile reproduction of the 1922 edition produced by Cecil Palmer, which itself provided a facsimile of the original 1843 edition published by Chapman and Hall, including the glorious illustrations from John Leech, and the heading on page [1] reading Stave I, consistent with the first state. Book in fine condition throughout. The slipcase is very slightly rubbed on corners. I love the care and precision with which this reproduction has been made, resulting in a gorgeous little volume so evocative of Victorian christmases.
