First edition, 10th printing.  xvi, 286, 40pp, with tissue-guarded plate frontispiece and further monochrome plates interleaved in text.  Blue cloth-covered boards with gilt titles and decorations front and spine.  Deckled edges.  Title page printed in red and black, with vignette.  8vo.  Cloth is worn and a little marked, gently rubbed at edges and around a sunned spine.  Deckled edges dust dulled.  Two previous owner's name on front endpapers; endpapers and first and last few pages faintly but consistently spotted else internally neat, clean and bright.  One plate partially detached else firmly bound.  

Gertrude Jekyll (1843-1932) was a British horticulturist, garden designer, craftswoman, photographer, writer and artist who created over 400 gardens in the UK and US and wrote over 1000 articles for magazines such as Country Life and The Garden.  She has been called "a premier influence in garden design".
