Well-known wrier Sheila Kaye-Smith writes of the Weald of Kent and Sussez, a small corner of England rich in natural beauty and history, lovingly, for it is an area she has known all her life.  The first half of the book introduces the reader to the Weald, guiding them through its villages and byways, exploring its landscape and fertility.  The second portion is more concerned with this history of Weald, with chapters on its industrial and economic history, the religions and faiths which have influenced its population over time and its rich heritage of stories of witches, witchcraft, ghosts and fairies.
