The Swedish warship, The Vasa, was launched in 1628 and sank just over 1000 miles into her maiden voyage. The had been commissioned by the King of Sweden as part of his military expansion triggered by war with Poland-Lithuania. After the valuable bronze of her cannons was recovered in the 17th century, she was lost and fell into obscurity but was located again and recovered in the late 20th century.
