First edition, first impression.  Signed and inscribed on the front free endpaper by the author, 'To Mrs Philip Snowden, with thanks for her great encouragement of a great cause, from Geoffrey Whitworth, Oct(?) 1930. 80pp.  Deep blue cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on the spine.  12mo.    Covers are worn with some rippling on cloth, gently rounded at corners and spine ends.  Call number written on spine.  Ex Coleg Harlech library, with bookplate on the front paste down, lending pocked on the front free endpaper, and small stamp on the copyright page.  Free endpapers toned and some quite heavy spotting first and last few pages.  

The autobiography of Geoffrey Whitworth (1883-1951), the author, playwright and theatre director, who promoted both amateur dramatics and professional theatre, in part by founding the British Drama League.  illuminating from a personal perspective much of the world of theatre in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.  He amassed an important collection of writings on the theatre, now in the possession of the Theatre Museum in Covent Garden.  The Geoffrey Whitford Theatre in Crayford, Kent, is named for him.
