First edition, first impression.  224pp, with a handful of black and white plate illustrations.  Red publisher's cloth-covered boards, gilt-stamped lettering on front and spine.  8vo.  Cloth a little tired, rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends.  Very slightly bowed.  Text block edges dulled and a little spotted.  Internally neat, clean, bright and tight.

A series of traveller's notes: what, in usual circumstances, might have been a usual travel book but Morris arrived in Japan just after the end of the Second World War when nothing had been done to restore the nation and the country was still in a state of collapse following the atomic bombs.  Morris found a devastated economy and a nation affected by a strange sense of apathy and helplessness.  As a result he paints a unique and quite personal picture of post-war Japan.
