Reprint.  112pp.  Black cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on the spine.  Deckled edges.  8vo.  Cloth has significant mottled markings, gently rounded at corners and spine tips.  A rather touching inscription neatly inked on the front free endpaper - 'In celebration of ten days at home together, June 14th to June 24th 1945 - tempting to think it was written by a soldier spending ten days at home with his sweetheart during leave from the war front.  Also  fat pen mark on the front free endpaper, presumably covering another short inscription.  Else internally neat. clean, bright and tight.  In its original paper dust wrapper, worn, chipped at edges, toned, with some loss around the base of the spine.

Written partly in prose and partly in poetic form, respected poet W H Auden reflects on the use of form and rhythm in poetry.
