Gove's Dictionary of Music and Musicians was first published, in four volumes, in 1879. An indispensable reference work covering the whole field of music and musician, it has gone through several editions since then. This, the 6th edition, is hugely enlarged from preceding editions and was the first to be published under the title the 'New' Grove's Dictionary. It contains some 22,500 articles and 16,500 biographies.
