Bound in full black leather , gilt titles and decoration on a spine with four raised bands. All edges marbled. Marbled endpapers. Large (and very heavy) 4to. Leather is worn, rubbed around edges, especially at spine tips, with a few minor marks and scuffs. Text block edges faded and toned. Previous owner's inscription in a copper plate hand and dated 1866, on front free endpaper verso. Some toning and spotting, most marked on first and last few leaves (including toned tissue guards). Tissue guard in volume one is chipped and torn at base, and extra illustrated title page has a short closed tear, else internally neat and clean. Firmly bound.
