Second edition. (The first edition, published in 1941 lacked the charming illustrations by C F Tunnicliffe).  285pp.  Red cloth-covered boards, gilt-stamped lettering on the spine.  8vo.  Cloth a little pushed and rubbed at corners and spine ends.  Text block edges and endpapers have some spotting, otherwise neat, clean and bright internally.  Square and firmly bound. In its original dust wrapper, a little rubbed at edges and very slightly toned.  Dust jacket now protected in a Brodart-style wrapper fitted without the use of tape or adhesives.

A companion volume to Uttley's The Country Child, The Farm on the Hill features the same child in the bath, Susan Garland, but shows a different scenes from Susan's childhood.  Described by one reviewer as "a book crammed with the poetry, the beauty, the wonder of common things which are no longer common".
