Complete in two volumes.  xcii, 326pp; 386pp.  Both volumes uniformly bound in red cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on spine. Black endpapers.  8vos.  Cloth heavily worn and marked, with rubs and indentations on edges, rounded on corners and spine ends; both volumes have a Mudie's Select Library labels on the front panel, chipped away at edges.  Text block edges toned and spotted.  Volume one has some chipping around hinges and edges of endpapers.  Both volumes with bookplate Sir Alfred Sherlock-Gooch [9th Baronet of Benacre Hall] on the front paste down. First and last few leaves in both volumes spotted with the occasional spot or fingering mark throughout.

Frances (fanny) Burney was an novelist and diarist (1752-1849) and Keeper of the Robes for Charlotte Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the queen of George III.
