Carl Reichenbach (1788-1869), was a German scientist, naturalist, industrialist and philosopher. He is best remembered for  discovering  various economically important chemical products extracted from tar, such as eupione.  He spent his latter years researching a type of energy combining electricity, magnetism and heat, emanating from all living things, which he called the Odic force.  Odic force was an unproven vital energy or life force which some in the mid-18th century believed in.
