xvi, 274pp, with tissue-guarded portrait frontispiece and several further black and white plate illustrations.  Blue cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering and decoration front and spine.  Deckled edges.  8vo.  Cloth a little tired, gently rounded at extreme corners and spine tips.  Previous owner's bookplate on front paste down.  A little spotting on endpapers, and small blue mark on front free endpaper else internally neat, clean and tight.  

The memoirs of Thomas Ryan (1827-1902), the American-Irish musician known for playing the viola and clarinet and co-founder of the American National College of Music in 1872.
