First edition, first impression. 288pp. Blue cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering on the spine. 12mo. Cloth a little rubbed at spine ends, slightly dulled over spine. Upper text block edge dust darkened, remaining edges foxed. A few spots on endpapers else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original Gollancz yellow jacket, shelf worn, a little rubbed on extreme edges, faded around edges and over spine. Dust wrapper now in a removable clear film sleeve.
Publishers Victor Gollancz introduced their yellow jacket shortly after the firm was founded, and almost all their publications between the 1920s and 1980s were yellow jacketed. These highly distinctive, and now niche collectable, jackets, are easily recognised from their plain yellow covers and stylised use of fonts in black and magenta.
