£15.50

First edition, first impression.  256pp. Burgundy cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering on the spine.  12mo.  Cloth a little rounded at spine ends.  Upper text block edge dust darkened, remaining edges foxed.  Previous (pre-decimal) price inked on front free endpaper else internally neat, clean, bright and tight.  In its original Gollancz yellow jacket, a little toned, slightly sunned over spine and gently rubbed on extreme edges.  Dust wrapper now in a removable clear film sleeve.

Publishers Victor Gollancz introduced their yellow jacket shortly after the firm was founded, and almost all their publications between the 1920s and 1980s were yellow jacketed.  These highly distinctive, and now niche collectable, jackets, are easily recognised from their plain yellow covers and stylised use of fonts in black and magenta.
