Languard Fort was the first fortification built by Henry VIII, designed to meet the threats posed by the Holy Roman Empire and the King of France. It was rebuilt in 1626-28 and then played a significant part in the wars against the Dutch who landed on the Felixstowe beaches and attacked the fort in 1667.
