Plekhanov (1857-1918), also known as the father of Russian Marxism, directed most of his writing again the Russian populist movement to which he had once belonged and insisted that revolution had to be two-step process if capitalism was to be done away with.  This, one of his seminar works, was published in Russia in 1896 but not available in English until this edition was published in 1947.  In it he argues that all aspects of society are ultimately derived from the economic conditions in which it exists.
