First edition, first impression. 324pp, with monochrome plate frontispiece and numerous further black and white plate illustrations. Blue cloth-covered boards with the gilt lettering on the spine. Maps on endpapers. 8vo. Cloth is worn, significantly rubbed all round edges, rounded and cracked on corners and spine ends. Both hinges cracked, boards loosening (although text block remains tight). Some spotting and minor marks on pages throughout. Ex reference library copy with bookplate and numbers on verso of front free endpaper (no other library markings).
