An early but undated edition, estimated circa 1920. 372pp, plus publisher's adverts at rear, monochrome plate frontispiece and one further monochrome plate; coloured title page printed in blue and red. Illustrated green cloth-covered boards with deep green lettering front and spine. 8vo. Cloth is worn and faded, rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends, a little discoloured on edges and folds. Text block edges and endpapers tanned, internally some light signs of fingering.
An early copy (not a first edition) of George Eliel Sargent's (1808 or 09-1883) adventure story for boys, reputed to be the first story about the Australian gold fields to appear in print when first published.
